Cornu Management prides itself in its collaboration with local law enforcement, resident crime watch groups and private security companies to improve public safety at all of our properties.
Property Managers, Resident Service Coordinators (RSC's) and facilities staff are all involved in improving public safety in the communities we serve. From responding to immediate emergencies to coordinating and facilitating violence prevention programs, the management staff works as a team to provide a safe community for the residents.
At each of our properties we make a conscious effort to build a relationship with the local police officers. RSC's coordinate on-site public safety meetings and invite representatives from local police and security companies. Residents are encouraged to ask questions and to offer suggestions for solutions. It is not enough for the management company to have such a relationship with local law enforcement; resident association representatives and residents, both young and old, need to develop this as well. Cornu acts as a conduit to enhance this rapport between residents and police and security officers.
RSC's and Property Managers also attend monthly public safety meetings in the broader community. Information and resources gathered from these meetings is then brought back to the resident associations and residents to facilitate a process to focus on solutions. In addition, RSC's have developed working relationships with the Street Workers assigned to work in their respective areas. This has enhanced our ability to refer youth who are heading in a negative direction for immediate mentoring and guidance.
A sterling example of our public safety initiatives is our Summer Youth Leadership Development program that creates real job and leadership training opportunities for young people from many of our properties who come together to share life and work experiences. Although our young people may view this simply as an opportunity to meet other youth, we saw it as an opportunity to create a communication vehicle to break down the barriers between youth from different neighborhoods. Ultimately, this is a direct route to creating a safer community for our residents.
