Thomas grew up in Omaha, Nebraska where he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. He moved to Boston in 1960 to attend Boston University School of Theology. His first work in affordable housing started in 1965 when, as a Methodist minister, he formed a nonprofit organization in Allston named Charlesview. The organization went on to build 220 units of affordable housing in Allston. From 1968 to 1973 he was the Vice President of the Cambridge Corporation. This nonprofit organization was funded by Harvard and MIT and was responsible for the development of approximately 700 units of affordable housing in Cambridge. In 1973 he started the Cornu Corporation which later became the Cornu Management Company, Inc. The company's first contract involving affordable housing was the development of Mission Park. The company first worked for Forrest City Dillon then Harvard University and finally the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard. In 1999, Harvard University sold the 770 unit property to the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard and the company continues to manage the development.
Charles J. Maneikis, Jr., President
Charlie has worked for Cornu Management Company for 28 years in various capacities. He began as a Management Assistant at our largest property, Mission Park, and has worked his way up to recently becoming President of Cornu Management in January 2007. His expertise in all facets of the affordable housing industry with a specialty on Resident Controlled Housing has provided the company with a reputation as one of the foremost and respected property management companies in the Boston area. Charlie earned a BA in Economics from Harvard University in 1980 and has done some graduate level study at Suffolk University. He is a Lead Trainer for the ARCH Committee of CHAPA and is member of Charlesbank Homes Board of Directors. He currently resides in Dorchester with his wife and their three children and remains active in the faith community of St. Ann Neponset.
Jane Mayer, Vice President, Resident Services
Jane joined Cornu Management Company in 1998 as Vice President for Resident Services and Community Relations. Since that time, she has developed a fully functioning Resident Social Service Program that excels throughout eastern Massachusetts. Highly skilled Resident Service Coordinators oversee the care coordination, community outreach, resident programs, youth leadership programs, Reasonable Accommodation requests, domestic violence issues, and other resident issues that come up at any site. Additionally, the staff have been major contributors at Professional Conferences throughout New England presenting workshops and receiving Service Awards. Staff have also been successful at receiving grant awards for, for example, the youth leadership program, and the Open Doors To Health Program of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Elizabeth M. Lawrence, CPA, Chief Financial Officer
Elizabeth Lawrence, as our Chief Financial Officer, leads our financial services group. Liz has over ten years of accounting experience and began her career as a Certified Public Accountant specializing in audits of affordable housing projects. Liz earned a joint Master of Business Administration and Master of Accounting from Northeastern University and is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA's, the American Institute of CPA's, and the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society.
Anita L. Huggins, Regional Property Manager
Anita Huggins has worked in the affordable housing industry for the past 37 years. Her career in affordable housing began at Mass Housing Finance Agency. Her property management experience expands a 30 year period. Anita was employed by Cornu Management Company in 1980 in the position of Property Manager for several developments owned by Madison Park Community Development Corp. She rejoined the firm in 2003 in the position of Regional Property Manager. She has also worked for Independent Managers Inc., Cruz Management Co., Inc., Maloney Properties, Inc., and HallKeen Management Co., Inc. She holds several housing related designations including MIT’s Minority Property Management Executive Program, Spectrum’s C4P, Certified Occupancy Specialist, and Certified Manager of Maintenance.
Kathleen Joyce, CPM®, ARM®, Regional Property Manager
Kate joined Cornu Management shortly after graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1992 with a degree in English and a minor in Business Administration. She has worked since that time in various property management capacities. Currently, Kate is a Regional Manager with Cornu and is responsible for a portfolio of properties in Chelsea and Boston, MA. These portfolios include mainly Tax Credit units as well as some Project Based Section 8, HOME, condominiums as well as others. Kate has an experienced staff of 3 Property Managers, 2 Assistant managers, a marketing specialist as well as an extensive maintenance department. Kate has widespread experience in renting up new properties, many that include various funding sources. Kate received her Certified Property Manager designation in 2001 from the Institute of Real Estate Management. She also holds the C7P designation from Spectrum. She currently lives on the South Shore with her husband and three daughters.
Andrea Orio, Director of Compliance
As Director of Compliance, Andrea plays a key role in protecting our client’s ownership interest by ensuring compliance with the tax credit and other subsidy programs. Andrea has more than 16 years experience in affordable housing, including the past seven years as Director of Compliance for a portfolio of 4,000 tax credit units across five states. In this capacity, she established a comprehensive compliance program highly regarded by investors, state agencies and industry colleagues. Andrea earned a BS in Business Communication from Bentley College and has achieved related industry certifications including HCCP, C10P (Spectrum), SHCM, NCP and COS.
Anne F. Moriarty, MSW, Director of Community Development
Anne F. Moriarty is currently employed as the Director of Community Development at Cornu Management. A Licensed Social Worker, Anne received her MSW from the University of Connecticut. She has been working in subsidized housing since 1990, either in a resident service department or in her capacity as a Program and Community Development Consultant. Anne developed a Youth Leadership Development Program and comprehensive Resident Service Program in Worcester, MA that was nationally recognized in the housing arena. Anne has extensive grant writing experience and has trained numerous staff as well as youth and adult residents in the grant writing process. Anne is the co-founder of the Worcester Youth Center and was a founding member of the Board of Centro Latino in Chelsea, MA and Notre Dame High School in Lawrence, MA.
Prior to her career in subsidized housing, Anne spent two and a half years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras. She is fluent in written and spoken Spanish.
